About Fran Lamothe
Fran Lamothe. Visual artist. Mixed media artwork is created with photography, paintings, digital imaging, graphics and image composites. Mixed media art are my preferred creative elements. I combine photography, image composites and paint.
Fran had her own Design studio since early 90's in which her portfolio includes entertainment industry. projects: from marketing, design packaging, print, CD'S & interactive DVD’s design, motion graphics and web design. Clients: Warner Bros, MGM, Filmline, Disney Interactive, Sony Pictures, Columbia Tristar, Universal Music. Fran worked in New York City with high level directors on TV commercials. ABOUT FRAN'S WORK
I work with photography, digital imaging, image composites, mixed media and paintings. Analog paintings are used for digital modifying process to create a total new artwork. Employing both analog and digital processes, the basis of the artwork is an over-painted. I combine photography, digital imaging and collage withmy own paintings. I transform the digital into tangible of paint. I paint with bold colors, stripes, textures, strokes, lines and emotions. I construct and deconstruct until it feels good to me. My passion for art, design, architectures and music, led me to creating my own artworks.
Where are you from? I was born and raised in Montreal. I lived in NYC and Los Angeles. Now splitting my time between the east and the west coast.
Where did you study? I have a BFA degree from (SVA) School of Visual Arts, New York City and Concordia University in Montreal. A minor in marketing Mc Gill University, Montreal and a certificate in e-marketing from UCLA. A certificate in Multimedia Business and Productions from The American Film Institute, Los Angeles, CA.
I studied digital imaging in NYC and the Center for Creative Imaging, the first school to offer digital imaging program. The Kodak school was located in Candem Maine.
What were your jobs after you graduated college?Worked on TV series, TV commercials and featured films. I worked with renowned TV commercial directors in NYC, Neil Tardio Productions, Rick Levine Productions, Landeck Ramsey Golden Productions. I also worked at National Film Board of Canada.
Founder of D. Company Prêt à Porter" a fashion business, designing shirts, boxer shorts and loungewear and importing clothing from France and Italy.
Principal of ID Image Digital, design studio, digital Imaging, graphic design, and large format printings.
In the 90's, I moved to Los Angeles. Worked as an interface designer, designing DVD's,DVD gaming, websites, e-marketing, advertising, online promos with the movie studios. Sony, Warner Brothers, MGM, Film Line, Disney Interactive... I was working as an UI, designer and creative director. I also worked in e-commerce as a producer and business development. Our clients; Yahoo, Getty Museum, Mattel, Sketchers...
As a kid were you interested in art? Yes in 4th grades I created a puppet show at school and it was shown on local TV and in 5th grades, I started painting and learning photography. My dad gave me his 35mm camera. I built my own darkroom at home and would spend hours developing films and printing my own photographs.
When did you become interested in a career as a visual artist? Always. Since my childhood, I was painting, making photographs and candle making. My brother and I started a business making and selling candles.
After working in the entertainment industry for many many years. In 2015 I made the transition from commercial art to my own artwork projects. Selling online, Saatchi Art, art fairs and my website FranLamothe.com.
Tell me about your art?
I combine photography, digital imaging and photo composites in photoshop. I paint with acrylic paint, oil sticks, graphite, inks, image transfer, collage, textiles, encaustic and bess wax. I create original artwork and fine art photography. I paint on fine art paper and canvas. I transform the digital into tangible. I construct and deconstruct until it feels good to me.
How do you unwind? Watch movies, listen to music, cook, hangout with my friends, drink wine, read and think about my next projects.
Favorite 60’s rock star? The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, The Supremes, Grace Slick, Grateful Dead, Moody Blues, CSNY, Allman Brothers..... Love the 60’ the 60's. Peace + Love.
What else should we know about you? I speak French fluently, Keith Haring was in my class at SVA. I started working with Photoshop version 2.0. I once taught snow skiing in Canada and water skiing and sailing in Vermont.
Likes: Poodles, architect A. Quincy Jones, tennis, spinning class, skiing, architecture, design, champagne, farm to table, the LA lifestyle, drive my car in Hollywood Hills, my family, partner and friends.
Dislikes: Bad wine, plastic bags, pasta that isn’t al dente, smoking and cold weather.
